A thedatabank Case Study
Minnesota Association of Colleges for Teacher Education (MnACTE), founded in 1973, is a statewide professional organization that promotes quality teacher preparation and shares data among approved programs. Facing an outdated, hard-to-use database that only one staff member could operate, MnACTE struggled with slow, manual updates and frequent website inaccuracies—problems that hindered the association’s ability to provide legislators and education leaders with current enrollment and diversity data needed to advance policy.
MnACTE implemented the Databank—a customizable, searchable directory with real-time updates—after a targeted evaluation led by Executive Assistant Bob Utke. The new system halved staffing time (from the equivalent of two full-time staff to one), created multiple trained users, improved record accuracy and communications, and reduced data-reporting time from a week to less than a day. As a result, MnACTE can respond quickly to information requests and has provided timely data that’s helped move legislation and funding to recruit more teachers of color.
