Thales helps secure the first cloud-based payments in Belarus

MTBank, one of the largest banks in Belarus, wanted to launch contactless mobile wallet services ahead of competitors by deploying host card emulation (HCE) for customers — a task that required robust cryptographic protection, compliance with international payment schemes, and rapid integration with existing systems. To meet this challenge MTBank worked with integration partner D8 and selected Thales’ payShield 9000 HSM to provide the hardware-backed security needed for tokenization and key management.

D8 implemented an in-house HCE Payments platform integrated with Thales payShield 9000, delivering tokenization, authorization services, and secure key storage without changing MTBank’s processing infrastructure. Using Thales HSMs enabled MasterCard Cloud Based Payments certification, allowed cloud-based payments for more than 300,000 cardholders, met an aggressive schedule, and made MTBank the first bank in Belarus to deploy HCE — helping the bank win a “Bank of the Year” award and cement its reputation for innovation.
