Thales enables RPC’s new mobile payment application

RPC (Regional Card Processing Centre, s.r.o.), a Raiffeisen International A.G. group member that handles card issuance, processing and fraud monitoring across multiple central and eastern European banks and generates $17M in revenue, wanted to add contactless smartphone payments using Host Card Emulation (HCE). Faced with a complex, multi-country infrastructure and the need for end-to-end security, flexibility and scalability, RPC selected Thales and its payShield 9000 HSM to meet these requirements.

Thales delivered payShield 9000-based protection by centrally generating and storing limited-use payment credentials (implemented via software license upgrades to RPC’s existing HSMs), providing industry-compliant cryptography, key management, clustering/failover and PCI HSM certification. The result was a seamless consumer experience (install, enroll, pay), secure HCE-enabled contactless transactions, standardized infrastructure and an estimated cost avoidance of €50,000–100,000 compared with alternative solutions, giving RPC a scalable, highly available payment security foundation.
