A Thales Case Study
PPF Banka, a Prague-based bank in the PPF Group, needed to strengthen access to its internet banking and virtual desktops, extend secure access to tablets and smartphones, and remove the user and administrative complexity of PKI smartcards. To achieve this, PPF Banka upgraded to Thales's SAS PCE and deployed hardware OTP tokens alongside Thales’s SafeNet MobilePASS for mobile devices.
Thales implemented SAS PCE to provide cloud-based, two-factor authentication with flexible token options, automated provisioning and easy integration with directories like Microsoft Active Directory. The solution let PPF Banka centrally manage separate policies for employees and internet-banking clients, roll out OTPs across more users and device types without relying on smartcard readers or SMS, and improve administrative efficiency and security (PIN-protected tokens), resulting in broader user/device coverage, simplified token management, and stronger protection against token theft and SMS-based attacks.
