Case Study: Becton, Dickinson and Company achieves transparent, enterprise-wide encryption for a single global SAP instance with Thales' Vormetric Data Security Platform

A Thales Case Study

Preview of the Becton, Dickinson and Company Case Study

Pioneering a massive cloud-based instance of SAP secured by Thales

Becton, Dickinson and Company (BD) consolidated its global operations onto a single US-based SAP instance with an Oracle database to speed decision-making and improve agility, but faced strict multi-region data privacy, logging and encryption requirements and the need to restrict third‑party support to OS/file-level privileges without exposing core data. To meet these challenges BD selected Thales and its Vormetric Data Security Platform to provide transparent, application‑agnostic protection.

Thales deployed Vormetric Transparent Encryption, Vormetric Key Management and the Vormetric Data Security Manager across BD’s on‑premises and Microsoft Azure environments—protecting a single global SAP instance made up of more than 30 modules. The Thales solution delivered file‑level access control, centralized key custody, encrypted backups and transparent encryption that reduced management overhead, met regional compliance needs, limited insider and third‑party exposure to data, and became BD’s encryption standard.
