NAVER Cloud Develops Cloud-Only HSM Services with Luna Network Hardware Security Modules

NAVER Cloud, a leading South Korean cloud service provider, needed to build Korea’s first cloud-based Hardware Security Module (HSM) service to support growing demand for encrypted financial data and to meet strict regulatory requirements. Facing no prior domestic references, an unfinished internal VPC, and the need for developer‑centric interfaces and high performance, NAVER Cloud selected Thales’ Luna Network Hardware Security Modules to de-risk development and provide a proven, standards‑compliant HSM platform.

Thales delivered Luna Network HSMs with scalable, high‑performance cryptography, broad standards compliance and hands‑on technical support through a five‑month POC, allowing NAVER Cloud to configure and launch the service on time. As a result, NAVER Cloud rolled out Korea’s first cloud HSM offering—enabling independent customer key management via a unique HSM‑to‑VPC connection, meeting the Information Network Act and Privacy Act requirements, reducing initial customer burden, and securing HSM capabilities first among domestic cloud operators.
