HPS, the developer of the PowerCARD payments platform and operator of the Kingdom of Morocco’s National Switch, faced rapid digital transformation and a surge in interoperable transactions — around 500,000 daily across 19 banks — requiring a payment‑grade HSM with proven security, scalability and regulatory compliance. HPS selected Thales and its payShield 9000 HSM to secure PowerCARD and meet strict performance and compliance needs.

Thales deployed payShield 9000 to handle PIN verification, card personalization, authorizations (including mobile/HCE, contactless and 3‑D Secure) with multi‑threaded performance up to 1,500 TPS and certifications such as PCI HSM and FIPS 140‑2 Level 3. The Thales solution enabled PowerCARD to be adopted as Morocco’s National Switch, support the routing and clearing of 19 banks and ~500,000 daily transactions, accelerate HPS’s time to market for new services, and provide the scalable, secure foundation for further market growth.
