A Thales Case Study
Herta, a global leader in facial recognition biometric software, faced major licensing and IP-protection challenges with a homegrown activation system. The internal solution lacked strong encryption, was highly manual, slowed sales cycles, and could not support feature- or usage-based licensing, entitlement management, or distribution-ready deployment. To address these gaps, Herta evaluated and selected Thales’ Sentinel licensing and software monetization technology (including Sentinel LDK SL, Sentinel Envelope and Sentinel EMS).
Working with Thales, Herta integrated Sentinel across Windows, Mac and Linux ARM platforms and used Envelope to encrypt source code and EMS to manage floating, node-locked and time‑based entitlements. The implementation took less than three months and enabled secure IP protection, remote updates, simplified license activations, streamlined trial-to-product activation, and distribution-ready sales. As a result, Herta reduced operational and logistics costs, shortened sales cycles, improved time-to-market and customer experience, and achieved a better return on investment with new, customer-driven revenue models thanks to Thales Sentinel.
