Epic Lanka Relies on Thales to Secure Keys for Payment Channel Encryption

Epic Lanka, a Sri Lankan e-security and e-payment provider, faced growing risk and regulatory pressure after point-of-sale (POS) communications to host servers were transmitted in clear text—exposing cardholder data and limiting POS rollout into remote areas. To meet Central Bank mandates and securely manage cryptographic keys for its Terminal Line Encryption (TLE) offering, Epic Lanka selected Thales ProtectServer HSM to provide hardened key generation, storage and cryptographic processing.

Epic Lanka integrated Thales ProtectServer HSM into its TLE solution to secure key storage, accelerate cryptographic operations, and ensure PCI DSS–compliant PIN translation and message processing. The Thales-backed TLE is now deployed across five banks, handling upwards of 200,000 transactions per day, while reducing encryption deployment time and costs, improving scalability and customer trust, and helping Epic Lanka work toward lowering payment fraud.
