Enhance Security by Encrypting Sensitive Medical Data Using Vormetric Transparent Encryption

Jeju National University Hospital is a public hospital in Jeju, South Korea, managing sensitive PII and PHI across its OCS, EMR and PACS systems. Faced with strict regulatory requirements under South Korea’s Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA) and the need to protect both structured and unstructured data without disrupting clinical applications, the hospital selected Thales’ Vormetric Transparent Encryption to meet its encryption and compliance needs.

Thales deployed Vormetric Transparent Encryption after a successful proof-of-concept, integrating transparent at-rest encryption and enterprise key management across JNUH’s environment. The solution delivered seamless interoperability with existing systems and PACS, required no application changes, produced negligible performance impact, improved compliance readiness for unstructured data, and helped JNUH meet PIPA and PHI requirements across its infrastructure.
