Casio Creates New Ways to License and Monetize its Software using Thales Sentinel

CASIO, a global manufacturer of consumer electronics and educational calculators, faced a shift from hardware to software-based products and needed to monetize and modernize its calculator simulator offering. To support online distribution, flexible commercial terms and free trials tailored to different markets and curricula, CASIO partnered with Thales and deployed the Sentinel licensing suite (Sentinel RMS and Sentinel EMS).

Thales provided consulting, a development/testing environment and implemented Sentinel RMS with Sentinel EMS in about 10 months, enabling 90‑day trials, single- to multi‑year licenses, license validity extensions and full online purchase/download/activation/renewal via CASIO’s website. The Thales solution increased CASIO’s competitiveness and market reach (including new distribution to students in Scandinavian countries), streamlined fulfillment and improved operational efficiency.
