A Thales Case Study

Preview of the Alfa Bank Case Study

Alfa-Bank Uses Two-Factor Authentication to Protect Customers’ Identities

Alfa Bank, one of Russia’s leading financial institutions with about 2.9 million retail customers and 51,000 corporate clients across 338 branches, faced high rates of phishing, malware and web attacks and needed a more secure, manageable and reliable way to protect online banking identities. To address this, Alfa Bank implemented Thales’s SafeNet eToken USB Authenticator for digital access and transaction signing.

Thales delivered a branded SafeNet eToken solution and central token management platform, piloting 5,000 kits (with a further 5,000 ordered) and integrating the tokens into the Alfa‑Client Online system within a two‑week timeframe. The deployment provided SSL‑encrypted strong authentication, digital signatures, multi‑application access and centralized administration, boosting customer confidence, reducing churn and fraud- and password-management costs, and streamlining IT overhead across Alfa Bank’s customer base.
