A Thales Case Study
Albert Schweitzer Ziekenhuis (ASZ), a Dutch hospital system treating more than 500,000 patients annually with over 4,000 staff, needed to secure physician access to sensitive medical records in a Citrix-based remote-access environment while meeting strict privacy and compliance requirements. With their SafeWord contract ending, ASZ worked with Thales (formerly Gemalto) to find a lower-cost, easier-to-manage strong authentication solution and evaluated Thales’s cloud offering, SafeNet Trusted Access.
Thales implemented SafeNet Trusted Access with support for SafeNet MobilePASS, automated lifecycle workflows and prevalidated Citrix integrations, using a migration agent to preserve existing tokens and avoid service disruption. The result was reduced total cost of ownership and management overhead, faster deployment, maintained regulatory confidence (ISO 27001), and continued secure remote access for ASZ’s clinicians — enabling secure authentication for thousands of staff caring for hundreds of thousands of patients each year.
