A Thales Case Study
Leading Large International Banking Group, a global bank employing tens of thousands, modernized its authentication framework to address limits of its legacy PKI-based smart card system. The customer needed PKI certificate-based access to virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI), secure BYOD and external/device-diverse users (including Apple devices), and a “certificate-based authentication anywhere” capability — requirements addressed using Thales’ SafeNet IDPrime Virtual virtual smart card solution.
Thales implemented SafeNet IDPrime Virtual to extend the bank’s existing PKI into VDI and mobile use cases, enabling certificate-based authentication from any device. The deployment let employees and external users self-issue virtual smart cards on demand, maintain PKI-level security through CA-controlled certificate generation, facilitate mobility and BYOD access, and materially reduce operational overheads by removing the need for physical smart cards and extensive helpdesk support.
