Hawaii's Office of Enterprise Technology Services Delivers Encryption-as-a-Service with Thales

The State of Hawaii’s Office of Enterprise Technology Services needed a way to protect sensitive government data as it expanded online access under its open government initiative. It also had to meet compliance requirements tied to PII, PCI-DSS, HIPAA, FIPPs, and FISMA, while supporting just-in-time access to information and protecting a second data center in a shared facility. The State worked with Thales e-Security and evaluated encryption options before choosing Vormetric Data Security Manager.

Thales e-Security implemented Vormetric Transparent Encryption and Vormetric Key Management to support a wide variety of file formats and data states, including data at rest. ETS said the solution was fast, simple to manage, and easy to extend across departments, helping the State offer encryption as a service within its services-oriented infrastructure. The result was cross-departmental and cross-facility protection, easier compliance, and a move toward just-in-time access to data.
