a Fortune 500 biotech firm secures global pacemaker updates with Thales e-Security

A Fortune 500 biotech firm faced the challenge of securing its next-generation line of Bluetooth-connected pacemakers. The company needed to ensure the highest level of security for data transfer and firmware updates for these life-sustaining IoMT devices, requiring a solution to protect its firmware signing keys and maintain authentic, secure global communications. They partnered with Thales e-Security to address this.

Thales e-Security, in partnership with Keyfactor, implemented a solution using Thales Luna Hardware Security Modules (HSMs) and Keyfactor’s PKI platform. This provided a secure root of trust, protected code-signing private keys, and enabled secure device credentials and firmware verification. The result was a successfully deployed product that maintains medical data encryption at rest and in motion, enables constant device updates to increase effectiveness and lifespan, and enhances patient outcomes with operational cost savings.
