Northmoor Community Association in Manchester, the “heart of the community” offering meals, benefits support, youth clubs and arts groups, faced a communication problem: many local residents don’t use email, so important updates weren’t getting through. To address this, Northmoor partnered with Textlocal and adopted its SMS messaging service (including the attachment tool and Messenger platform) to reach users on their mobile phones.
Using Textlocal, Northmoor now sends targeted SMS updates, posters as attachments, and course reminders or cancellation notices while managing multiple audience groups. The switch opened regular contact with an estimated 70% of service users who don’t use email, helped reduce no-shows through reminders, and generated responses from recipients — prompting plans to expand automatic replies and further SMS use with Textlocal.
