Microsoft Cyber Defense shores up quality with end-to-end testing

Microsoft Cyber Defense, part of Microsoft Defender Advanced Threat Protection (ATP), needed a better way to ensure quality for its cloud-based security portal as the team scaled quickly. Manual sanity checks and limited deployment automation were no longer sustainable, and the group wanted functional end-to-end test automation that would work with existing code, fit into DevOps pipelines, and be easy for developers, QA, and product managers to use.

Microsoft Cyber Defense chose Testim to automate functional and end-to-end testing, and after a six-hour workshop the team had created 120 tests, including 80 E2E tests still in use. Testim was then integrated into Azure pipelines at key process gates such as pull requests, pre-deployment, releases, post-deployment, and nightly runs, helping Microsoft identify previously undetected bugs, improve regression coverage, and move closer to continuous delivery.
