Froedtert Hospital Implements RAIN RFID Technology to Ensure Inventory Visibility of Tissue, Implants, and Organs

Froedtert Hospital, a 585-bed academic medical center and teaching affiliate of the Medical College of Wisconsin, needed a better way to manage tissue and implant inventory in its surgery departments. Working with Terso Solutions and TrackCore, the hospital was struggling with limited inventory visibility, manual barcode and logbook processes, and compliance requirements around chain of custody, temperature monitoring, and recall tracking.

Terso Solutions implemented RAIN RFID-enabled enclosures integrated with TrackCore Operating Room software to automate real-time inventory tracking. The solution tracked who removed items, when they were taken, and their temperature, helping Froedtert Hospital manage about 10,000 high-value items with approximately 1,800 in storage at any time, reduce staffing from three full-time employees to one, and pass Joint Commission audits with zero findings due to improved traceability and accuracy.
