Queen’s University Department of Family Medicine Reinforces Their Core Values with Social Media-Style Employee Recognition

Queen’s University Department of Family Medicine, a 100‑employee healthcare, education and research group operating across four Ontario locations and caring for more than 10,000 patients, identified employee recognition as a strategic priority in 2009. After researching options, they selected Terryberry’s Give a WOW social‑media style employee recognition program to boost day‑to‑day engagement and strengthen connections between geographically separated staff.

Terryberry implemented an online, social media–style platform where employees nominate peers for recognition tied to the DFM’s core values, with tiers including High Five, WOW awards, DFM Recognition Awards and service awards and quarterly review of nominations. The Give a WOW program increased real‑time sharing of achievements, drove growing daily staff login and participation, fostered a stronger sense of community across locations and provided motivation tied directly to organizational goals — outcomes Queen’s University attributes to Terryberry’s solution.
