Case Study: Moda Health achieves 210% increase in participation and 363% boost in activity with Terryberry (Walker Tracker)

How a Community Walked a Million Miles in One Year

Moda Health, a Portland-based health insurer with roughly 1,200–1,400 employees, needed to increase and sustain participation in its long-running employee walking challenge. After years of manual tracking and a self-built SharePoint system that didn’t improve the participant experience, Moda Health partnered with the Walker Tracker step-challenge platform (featured by Terryberry) to modernize tracking and engagement.

Terryberry helped implement Walker Tracker’s device/app syncing, activity converter, challenge maps, team challenges and weekly participant emails, simplifying administration and boosting motivation. The results were measurable: participation rose from about 250 in 2016 to 524 in 2018 (a 210% increase) and total steps grew from 75,123,811 in 2016 to 272,754,881 in 2018 (a 363% increase).
