Tetra Pak Achieving product carbon footprint at scale for sustainable packaging 98% faster than conventional methods

Tetra Pak, a world-leading food processing and packaging solutions company, faced challenges in efficiently delivering Life Cycle Assessments for its packaging. The process was slow, resource-intensive, and costly, hindering their ability to demonstrate the sustainability of their products compared to alternatives. To address this, they partnered with the vendor Terrascope to implement its Product Carbon Footprinting (PCF) solution.

Using Terrascope's PCF service, Tetra Pak swiftly generated granular carbon footprints for 16 product SKUs in just one month—a 98% time saving compared to traditional methods. The analysis revealed that 15 of the 16 SKUs had a lower emissions footprint, with reductions of up to 88% compared to standard packaging. This data accelerated Tetra Pak's sustainable innovation, enhanced its brand reputation, and equipped its customers with verifiable information to develop a more sustainable packaging mix.
