U.S. Army Geospatial Center - Customer Case Study

The U.S. Army Geospatial Center (AGC) coordinates and manages maps and imagery for the Army, DoD and public-safety partners across 140+ countries and all U.S. states and territories. Faced with growing demand for near real-time, easy access to large geospatial datasets without degrading network performance, the AGC needed a faster way to distribute multi-layer mapbooks to warfighters, commanders and non‑GIS users for improved situational awareness and disaster response.

Working with TerraGo Services, the AGC implemented an electronic index server that enables self-service browsing, selection and automatic assembly of multi-layer GeoPDF mapbooks, lets field users update and return on‑the‑ground intelligence, and included project management, on-site implementation and training. The solution sped mapbook production, reduced bandwidth impacts, increased use of AGC GEOINT (improving ROI), enabled distribution options like County Area Coverage DVDs, and provides a foundation for future enhancements such as WMS layers, SDK updates, multiple templates and 3D GeoPDF support; users can also view total file size for media preparation.
