Jamaica Public Service cuts energy use by 30 GWh a year with TerraGo

Jamaica Public Service (JPS), the sole distributor of electricity in Jamaica, faced the challenge of deploying over 110,000 smart streetlights on schedule. Their manual data collection system was inefficient, preventing real-time data sharing between field crews and back-office systems and hindering integration with their network and GIS platforms. To overcome this, they partnered with vendor TerraGo to implement its platform and mobile applications.

The TerraGo solution integrated with Itron and Esri systems, automating workflows and enabling real-time data synchronization for field crews. This allowed JPS to successfully complete the nationwide deployment on schedule. The results included eliminating manual paper processes and data entry errors, reducing energy usage by over 30 GWh per year, and cutting annual CO2 emissions by over 40,000 tons. TerraGo provided a foundation for JPS to expand into future smart city applications.
