The City of Chicago launched one of the world’s largest smart streetlighting initiatives, aiming to replace more than 270,000 legacy HPS streetlights while also integrating lighting operations, billing, 311, and GIS systems. To manage the scale, the city turned to TerraGo StreetlightOps, but needed a way to speed deployment, maintain the networked assets, and eliminate paper-based, manual processes.

TerraGo implemented StreetlightOps with installation, maintenance, work order, and integration capabilities that connected CMS, Salesforce 311, and ArcGIS. The result was more than 251,000 LED lights installed on schedule, over $10 million in annual savings, reduced truck rolls and work order delays, and improved service through automated routing and outage restoration; the city also noted it restored over 120 “all outs” in one day thanks to TerraGo.
