Florida Atlantic University’s College of Engineering and Computer Science faced growing demands for graphics‑intensive CAD, game programming and 3D coursework while moving into a new LEED Platinum building. Students, faculty and staff were forced to travel to specific labs to access specialized software, and IT needed a way to support VDI for administrators and remote workstations for power users, improve remote user experience for distance learners, and cut maintenance, power and hardware failure costs.

FAU implemented Teradici PCoIP with VMware Horizon View and AMD FirePro RG220 remote graphics (plus Teradici’s APEX 2800 hardware accelerator) and rolled out PCoIP zero clients and unified management via the Horizon broker. The result: high‑fidelity, location‑independent access to virtual desktops and workstations, labs no longer tied to specific courses, faster deployments, lower power use and hardware failure rates, and significantly reduced IT maintenance while supporting ~150 staff and 2,000 students.
