DER Reisebüro is a German travel agency network with more than 580 sales offices and about 2,300 agents. Facing fierce competition, high customer expectations and a small IT team responsible for an aging fleet of desktops, the company struggled to keep mission‑critical applications like AMADEUS and multimedia-rich presentations up to date, secure and performant across its distributed offices.
DER implemented a VDI solution based on Teradici PCoIP, Wyse P20 zero clients and VMware View, virtualizing over 95% (2,300) of desktops on centralized Dell servers. The change eliminated physical PCs, improved application and multimedia performance, enabled nightly centralized updates, provided secure remote access without VPN, cut power use by 80% (≈$80K/year) and reduced memory and e‑waste—delivering better customer service, tighter security and lower IT costs.
