Amway - Customer Case Study

Amway, a global direct-selling company with thousands of employees, consolidated its Americas finance operations into a single process center in Costa Rica to gain scale and reduce costs. The challenge was to give up to 250 Costa Rica users secure, high-performance access to applications and data hosted in Amway’s Michigan datacenter—including image‑intensive scanning and financial systems—over a high‑latency WAN, all on a tight 16‑week timeline and without building a local datacenter.

Working with VMware partner Teradici, Amway deployed VMware View with the PCoIP protocol and Samsung PCoIP zero‑client monitors, plus VMware ThinApp, linked‑clone non‑persistent desktops and profile management. The result was a LAN‑like user experience over a 45 Mbps link with ~100 ms latency (about 100 Kbps/user), simplified desktop management, stronger security (no local data), faster recovery from outages, cost savings from centralized operations, and a successful pilot that’s being evaluated for global rollout.
