United States Air Force - Customer Case Study

The U.S. Air Force’s Air Force Materiel Command (AFMC) is charged with maintaining readiness for thousands of aircraft and millions of individual parts worldwide. AFMC faced fragmented databases and manual tracking that made it hard to get timely, consolidated visibility into each part’s history, location, availability and maintenance status—limiting its ability to support rapid deployments and proactive maintenance.

In 2001 AFMC implemented a Teradata enterprise data warehouse to consolidate maintenance, reliability and inventory data (about 600 million records at launch, now ingesting roughly 6 million new records per day), growing users from ~50 to ~600. The solution delivers near‑real‑time, cross‑functional reporting and analysis, enabling daily status updates, faster parts locating and allocation, predictive maintenance and improved mission readiness while reducing manual effort and response time.
