A Teradata Case Study
The Travelers Companies, Inc., a leading U.S. insurer, needed to move beyond targeting only low-risk consumers by using more data to understand risk and optimize pricing. Its legacy, siloed IT environment (DB2 on mainframe and distributed systems, plus SQL Server) could not scale, integrate data, or manage mixed workloads and service-level needs as BI usage and data volumes grew.
In December 2004 Travelers consolidated on Teradata and deployed Active System Management, Dynamic Workload Manager and Priority Scheduler to prioritize mixed workloads, allocate resources by workgroup and guarantee timely monthly reports. The platform scaled to support thousands of users and multi-terabyte datasets, eliminated missed timeliness SLAs, improved query performance, and gave Travelers the BI foundation to optimize pricing and confidently expand its customer base.
