A Teradata Case Study
St.George Bank, Australia’s fifth-largest retail bank, faced the challenge of turning rapid organic growth and earlier acquisitions into consistent, data-driven customer service, regulatory compliance and cost efficiency. The bank needed a single, trusted source of information to replace fragmented systems, support APRA and Basel II reporting, improve decision-making across departments and enable more targeted marketing and CRM.
St.George implemented a Teradata-based Group Data Warehouse (GDW), reconciled to the general ledger and governed by a GDW Council, and rolled out Business Objects, CRM front-ends and risk tools from SAS and Fitch. The GDW delivered faster, accurate reporting and analytics (reports cut from minutes to seconds), automated regulatory reporting, improved campaign response rates (typical direct-mail lifts to 5–6%, targeted CRM to 15–20%), reduced expense-to-income ratio to 44%, drove A$1,026m in profit (+14.5% year over year), raised customer satisfaction and strengthened risk management and competitive advantage.
