A Teradata Case Study
A city‑wide, multi‑modal transportation authority responsible for roads, rail, buses, taxis and private vehicles faced rapidly rising demand and exploding data volumes—capturing more than 12 million public‑transport records daily—while legacy IT systems only retained transactions for three months. That short retention window and limited analytic capability threatened the authority’s ability to do long‑term trend analysis, policy planning and to meet the forecasts in its Land Transport Master Plan.
Teradata ran a proof‑of‑concept to select an enterprise data warehouse, achieving a 99% improvement in query response times, and then deployed a full-scale data analytics ecosystem. The new platform enables large‑scale analytics and transport simulation—improving traffic and passenger-flow analysis, route performance and resource optimization—and provides a scalable data foundation to extend smart‑city insights across energy, public safety and other services.
