A Teradata Case Study
Raiffeisen Bank International (RBI), a leading Austrian and Central and Eastern European banking group operating in 15+ countries, faced fragmented local data warehouses, inconsistent business vocabularies and growing regulatory and reporting demands across multiple jurisdictions. The bank needed a single, governed source of truth to provide end-to-end data lineage, consistent business definitions and transparent, auditable reporting for risk, finance and performance management.
RBI built a greenfield Enterprise Data Warehouse on Teradata and developed a harmonized Business Data Model (BDM) using an agile six-step approach, visual lineage tooling (FlowViz) and cross‑functional teams. The initiative delivered 2,500 initial business definitions (BDM completed in 2012 and now at version 300), retired legacy systems to cut costs, improved regulatory transparency and data reuse, covered operational costs as more consumers joined, and drove a lasting cultural shift toward shared language and faster, insight-driven decision making.
