A Teradata Case Study
Pacific Gas & Electric (PG&E), which provides gas and electric service to over 15 million people across varied climates and customer segments, faced fragmented data, siloed analytics teams, and slow reporting that limited its ability to design targeted customer programs and leverage growing Smart Grid/Smart Meter data. The utility needed to evolve from reporting to insight-driven decision making to address load management, demand-side programs, and costly infrastructure planning.
Working with Teradata, PG&E created a Demand Side Analytics team and modernized its data platform to enable on-demand queries and interactive dashboards. The change cut analytics turnaround from weeks to seconds, supported a pilot to defer distribution investments with demand-side resources, and produced sharper targeting (e.g., 40% of residential customers account for over 80% of SmartAC load resource potential), driving time and cost savings and a more collaborative, insight-driven culture.
