DHL Express, a global logistics division of Deutsche Post DHL with 31,500 vehicles, 260 aircraft and more than 4,000 facilities operating across 220+ countries, relied on a sprawling, manual costing system that produced inconsistent data, inaccurate profitability results and fragmented finance teams. Those shortcomings made pricing, capacity planning and performance measurement unreliable and limited finance’s ability to influence commercial decisions.
Partnering with Teradata, DHL deployed INSIGHT, a single worldwide costing and profitability analytics platform that ingests transaction-level data to calculate cost and profit per shipment. The enterprise-wide “big bang” rollout improved pricing and operational visibility, enabled finance to become a strategic business partner, shrank the costing team to under 10% of its prior size, and delivered operational efficiencies and pricing improvements that Aitken says yielded cost savings in the “hundreds of millions” while giving customers more competitive, actionable insights.
