A Teradata Case Study
Egypt’s Census Bureau (CAPMAS) is Egypt’s central statistical agency responsible for collecting, integrating and publishing census and national statistics used by government agencies, researchers and investors. CAPMAS struggled with fragmented source systems, handwritten 2006 census data, slow report generation and limited analytic capability, so leadership launched a strategic program to build an enterprise data warehouse and adopt data mining to support decision making, running a proof-of-concept that led to a partnership with Teradata.
The solution implemented a phased EDW (foundation built around the 2006 census) on a Teradata MPP platform, Teradata ETL utilities, MicroStrategy reporting and Teradata Warehouse Miner for analytics, combined with data‑quality processes and targeted analyst training (including hands‑on workshops and external coaching). The result was a centralized, integrated analytics environment that enabled on‑demand reporting and mining use cases (child labor, mortality, unemployment, divorce, family classification), faster, more informed policy and investment decisions, and a DW team capable of expanding the system for future subjects.
