DEG Home Entertainment Supply Chain Study

The Digital Entertainment Group (DEG) commissioned Capgemini and Teradata to assess the “last 100 feet” of the DVD supply chain across eight major studios, five retailers and three merchandisers. The study found pervasive retail‑level problems—poor data synchronization, inconsistent use of Advanced Shipment Notices (ASNs), inaccurate on‑hand inventory, weak forecasting, and fragmented retail execution—that were driving stock‑outs, excess returns and eroding margins as DVD sales declined.

The team conducted interviews, store audits and data analysis, then delivered confidential, customized reports and industry‑wide recommendations: mandatory ASN use, standardized item synchronization, improved store/SKU on‑hand accuracy, global demand planning, better carton labeling and replenishment practices, stronger merchandiser partnerships and reverse‑logistics options. By convening collaborative workshops and targeted pilots (e.g., top‑store focus), participants committed to joint implementation—promising faster replenishment, fewer stock‑outs and returns, lower costs and a better consumer experience.
