A Teradata Case Study
Bouygues Telecom, the third-largest mobile operator in France with about 10 million customers, faced a saturated market and rising competitive pressure to retain profitable subscribers while cutting costs and meeting legal requirements for near real-time call-detail records (CDRs). Their analytics were fractured across more than 300 data marts and multiple warehouses, producing inconsistent “numbers” and slow, hard-to-govern BI that hampered timely decision‑making.
Bouygues implemented a phased enterprise data warehouse (EDW) with Teradata, a governed prioritization process (business units used “BI chips” to rank needs), and a controlled Data Lab for temporary sandboxes, integrating existing BI tools and CRM. The consolidation enabled near-real-time analytics (churn scoring cut from a week to 4 hours), full decommissioning of legacy marts, 33% cost savings, 88% of requested BI value delivered in two years, improved scalability and performance, and shared CDR access for legal needs—while enabling greater self-service and faster, more reliable decision-making.
