BKK Bundesverband - Customer Case Study

BKK Bundesverband is the national association of 175 German company health insurers representing nearly 14 million people (about 20% of the statutory market). Tasked with helping affiliates deliver better service at lower cost and grow membership, BKK faced the twin challenges of consolidating massive claims data after a legal mandate for electronic settlement and fixing chronic latency and visibility gaps in the expense pipeline while ensuring data security and supporting mixed, high‑volume workloads.

BKK built InfoNet, a Teradata-based enterprise data warehouse and clearinghouse with multi-layer security, optimized near‑real‑time file loads, active workload management and an IBM Cognos web portal. The platform enabled hospitalization alerts, member access to claims and prescription images, referrals and fraud detection. Results included significant cost reductions, lower contribution rates, improved care coordination and a 38% membership increase (about 2 million new members) over four years.
