A Teneo Case Study
Plan International, one of the world’s largest children’s development organisations, needed to centralise IT systems across more than 50 countries while dealing with poor network infrastructure in many locations. This created serious performance problems for users accessing systems like SAP, and the charity’s small internal IT team lacked the bandwidth to manage a large global deployment on its own. To address this, Plan International worked with Teneo and Riverbed WAN optimisation technology, delivered through Teneo’s managed service.
Teneo implemented Riverbed SteelHead devices across the organisation, starting with a pilot in 2010 and expanding to more than 150 devices in over 40 countries. The solution improved network performance to 4.7x optimisation, reduced WAN traffic by 78.6% and SAP traffic by 92%, and cut application wait times from up to 15 minutes to just seconds. Plan International also reported around $6 million in annual bandwidth savings from an investment of about $1.5 million, while Teneo managed deployment, logistics, and 24/7 device monitoring.
