Tenable Attack Surface Management Supports the Creation of an Environment Where Faculty Members Can Devote Themselves to Teaching and Research

Keio University’s Shonan Fujisawa Campus (SFC), a research-focused campus with global IPs and flexible IT use by faculty and students, needed security that respected academic autonomy while addressing rising, sophisticated threats. Traditional port scans and basic monitoring weren’t giving the detailed, actionable insight required to manage risk across faculty-run sites and VPS-hosted services.

SFC implemented Tenable Attack Surface Management to gain granular software and configuration visibility, prioritized, easy-to-understand findings, and simple exception handling. After scanning ~200 sites they identified about 20 with issues (e.g., outdated WordPress), prompting targeted fixes or removals, improving communication with faculty, lowering response effort, and enabling plans for automation and regular internal scanning with Tenable Vulnerability Management.
