Taking the First Step to Build a Vulnerability Management Program by Visualizing Previously Unidentified Assets

Citizen Watch Co., Ltd., a century-old watchmaker undergoing a rapid shift to public cloud, faced growing difficulty managing legacy on‑premise virtual servers and keeping an accurate inventory. With some 200–300 data‑center VMs built ad hoc, limited and costly annual penetration tests, and an incomplete Excel inventory, the IT team had blind spots in asset visibility and vulnerability management that needed a practical, ongoing solution.

In June 2023 Citizen deployed Tenable Vulnerability Management (chosen for its high detection rate, SaaS unified console and cost), running monthly scans of roughly 550 internal assets and annual scans of ~250 externally connected systems. The rollout quickly exposed previously unidentified nodes and vulnerabilities, delivered actionable monthly reports to system owners, improved remediation tracking and governance, and proved a cost‑effective foundation to expand vulnerability management across the group and into OT environments.
