Case Study: Hyogo Prefecture achieves stronger Active Directory security and improved compliance with Tenable Networks' Tenable.ad

A Tenable Networks Case Study

Preview of the Hyogo Prefecture Case Study

Hyogo Prefecture, a Promoter of “smart Municipalities”, Adopts Tenable.ad to Enhance Its Active Directory Security

Hyogo Prefecture, a large Japanese local government promoting its “Smart Hyogo” strategy and operating a broad Telework infrastructure, needed to strengthen security for its centralized Active Directory (AD) in the Hyogo Prefecture Information Security Cloud. Although AD made centralized management efficient, the team lacked a way to visualize AD misconfigurations, dormant accounts, and other vulnerabilities that could be exploited for privilege escalation.

To address this, Hyogo adopted Tenable.ad—chosen in part because of prior positive experience with Nessus—and completed deployment in under a month with vendor support. Tenable.ad provided real-time detection, visualization, compliance scoring, and remediation guidance, enabling the team to remove many dormant accounts, close misconfigurations, and generate audit reports. The result was a significant reduction in AD vulnerabilities, a marked improvement in compliance scores, and strengthened ID management and overall cloud security.
