City of Raleigh ensures safety and sustainability of public water with Tenable OT Security

The City of Raleigh’s public utilities department—serving about 570,000 residents across five water and wastewater plants (its largest handles ~18 billion gallons/year)—needed better protection for its SCADA/ICS environment. Facing growing cyber threats and new regulatory requirements, the team lacked full visibility into OT assets, struggled with manual inventory tracking, couldn’t verify contractor changes to PLCs, and found passive network monitoring alone insufficient.

After an RFP the city deployed Tenable OT Security, whose active detection and passive monitoring automatically discover and inventory devices, map controllers, query PLCs, and generate real‑time alerts and detailed audit trails. The solution delivered rapid asset discovery, stronger situational awareness, accountable change tracking, faster investigations, and streamlined compliance readiness.
