Case Study: Vodafone accelerates CPE software orchestration with Temporal

A Temporal Technologies Case Study

Preview of the Vodafone Case Study

How Vodafone aims to orchestrate value added services across devices with Temporal

Vodafone, the multinational telecom company, needed a cloud-native way to orchestrate software installs across its customer premise equipment (CPEs) as it rolled out new services like security and IoT. The team faced asynchronous workflows, split-brain risks, and two very different workloads: low-volume device onboarding and high-volume fleet-wide campaigns. Vodafone chose Temporal Technologies’ Temporal platform, using Java-based workflows and cloud-native orchestration to manage these device updates.

With Temporal Technologies, Vodafone built a durable, scalable CPE management system that let engineers focus on business logic instead of failure handling. The solution improved speed to market, supported horizontal scaling to hundreds of thousands of workflows per minute, and helped the team hit its tight production deadline. Vodafone later migrated to Temporal Cloud, citing lower operational complexity, better storage scalability, consumption-based pricing, and stronger security.
