Replit uses Temporal to power Replit Agent reliably at scale

Replit, the AI coding company behind Replit Agent, needed a better way to orchestrate long-lived agents and cloud container workflows at scale. Its custom orchestration logic had to handle one active agent per user session, multiplayer coding, and frequent reliability issues like crashes, memory problems, and provider outages. Replit chose Temporal and its Durable Execution platform, including Temporal Cloud and the Python SDK, to replace much of that custom infrastructure.

With Temporal, Replit migrated the control plane for Replit Agent in just a couple of weeks and used Workflows, Activities, Workflow Updates, and Multi-Region Replication to improve reliability and recovery. Temporal now powers Replit Agent as well as previews, cloud deployments, and domain lifecycle workflows, helping the team move faster and avoid edge cases without rebuilding their orchestration engine. The company reported no major incidents traced back to Temporal Cloud and said Temporal has not been a bottleneck as usage has scaled significantly.
