Duolingo simplifies self-service infrastructure with Temporal Nexus

Duolingo, the world’s most popular language-learning app, needed a secure way for its Cloud Operations team to let other engineering teams trigger critical infrastructure workflows without exposing sensitive controls or creating a monolithic access model. The team had already adopted Temporal Technologies for use cases like disaster recovery and RDS lifecycle operations, and Temporal Nexus became the key product for extending those workflows across Namespace boundaries.

Temporal Technologies implemented Temporal Nexus to power a self-service workflow portal backed by cross-Namespace orchestration, a gateway microservice, and guardrails like approval steps, scoped IAM policies, and Slack notifications. The result was a secure self-service system that let engineers complete tasks in minutes instead of waiting on Cloud Operations, saving hundreds of hours and enabling more than 20 self-service workflows across over six teams in just a few months.
