How Trendyol’s Database Team Scales for 200K Merchants and 1M+ Orders a Day

Trendyol, a major Turkish e-commerce company serving more than 40 million active customers and 200,000+ merchants, needed a reliable way to provision and manage multi-region databases at scale. Its database team had to create long-running deployments across Istanbul and Ankara, handle slow provisioning that could take days or weeks, and ensure resilient replication and failover for a high-volume retail platform. Temporal Technologies’ Temporal workflow orchestration was used to address these reliability and automation challenges.

Using Temporal Technologies’ self-hosted Temporal platform with Go, Trendyol built workflows that created databases in parallel, polled until each cluster was ready, and then set up replication automatically. Temporal provided persistent state, retries, delay handling, and replayable event history, allowing workflows to resume after interruptions without manual intervention. The result was a more resilient, transparent, and scalable database platform that improved developer trust, reduced operational burden, and kept pace with Trendyol’s rapid growth.
