How Purdue Solar uses Portfolio Manager to fuel the future

Purdue Solar Racing, a student-led engineering team at Purdue University, builds solar-powered vehicles for competitions. Their challenge was managing an increasingly complex, multi-year project with a large, fluid team using traditional tools like Microsoft Project, which could not handle the uncertainty in their task estimates or the constant change in team member availability.

Tempo provided a solution with its features for task management, predictive scheduling, and acting as a knowledge repository. This allowed the team to plan with best and worst-case scenarios, model schedules without assigned resources, and retain institutional knowledge. While measurable results are from a short period of use, the team has already scheduled a year-and-a-half of tasks and anticipates Tempo will significantly reduce the estimated one-year onboarding time for new members.
