Preview of the Orlando International Airport Case Study

Orlando International Airport connects 4,000+ devices with Tellabs Optical LAN

Orlando International Airport faced the challenge of building a modern, innovative network for its new Terminal C that prioritized safety, security, sustainability, and an enhanced traveler experience. The Greater Orlando Aviation Authority (GOAA) sought a technology solution that would offer easier operations, improved reliability, and strong security to support its vision for a future-ready transportation hub. They selected Tellabs and its Tellabs Optical LAN solution, based on Passive Optical Networking (PON) technology, to meet these goals.

Tellabs implemented a fiber-based Passive Optical LAN, which significantly reduced the network's physical footprint by eliminating the need for numerous communication rooms, freeing up valuable space for revenue-generating tenants. The solution provided improved reliability with a redundant design and enhanced security inherent to fiber optics. The airport also gained a scalable, high-speed 10-gigabit infrastructure capable of supporting future growth. The successful implementation, a result of a rigorous selection process and strong support from Tellabs and a local integrator, has provided the airport with a more efficient and scalable network that continues to exceed expectations.
